Tsunami disaster 2004🌊

The tsunami was the biggest natural disaster our country faced in 2004.  It is a disaster that has affected not only our country but the whole world.  About 31200 Sri Lankans died in this disaster.  About 4,000 went missing.  More than 10,000 people have lost their lives in the Ampara area alone.  The tsunami hit a country train carrying about 1,700 passengers.  The tsunami was triggered by a magnitude 7.58 earthquake on December 26, Indonesia time.
When the tsunami hit the southwest coast of the country, many vehicles were running on the Galle road.  Many of those vehicles were affected by the tsunami.  One year after the tsunami, fishermen spotted several vehicles fishing off the southwest coast.  The tsunami also hit the city of Galle.  There too many people were caught in the waves.  No tsunami alert was issued.  The tsunami was reported to have completely destroyed 50 miles of the southern railway line.  The animals were alert to the tsunami disaster.  No animals were affected by the tsunami in the Yala area.  Only tied animals were affected by the tsunami.  When the tsunami hit, no damage was done to any of the vessels in the deep sea.

And there are plenty of tragic events behind this that we do not know about.  It has been 17 years since this catastrophe occurred.  We remember all those who lost their lives, were injured and disappeared in this disaster.  May such a tragedy never happen again!
