Tsunami disaster 2004🌊
The tsunami was the biggest natural disaster our country faced in 2004. It is a disaster that has affected not only our country but the whole world. About 31200 Sri Lankans died in this disaster. About 4,000 went missing. More than 10,000 people have lost their lives in the Ampara area alone. The tsunami hit a country train carrying about 1,700 passengers. The tsunami was triggered by a magnitude 7.58 earthquake on December 26, Indonesia time. When the tsunami hit the southwest coast of the country, many vehicles were running on the Galle road. Many of those vehicles were affected by the tsunami. One year after the tsunami, fishermen spotted several vehicles fishing off the southwest coast. The tsunami also hit the city of Galle.
